If you choose "Videos" mode above, you will currently only get to recite the Glorious and Joyful Mystery. choosing "Suggested" will select the mystery based on the daily scheduled recomended by the Catholic church.
Konkani is spoken about 4.5 million people around the Globe, It is one of the national languages of India, and used by many Catholics on the west coast of the continent. The Rosary is recited daily in Catholic homes, and in churches or chapels, or even in the open at many crucifix monuments that dot the landscape. As people dispersed to read Africa, UK Europe, Canada, USA and Australia, they carried their faith along with them and continued the recitation of the Rosary in prayer groups and social organizations.
Hence to preserve this rich legacy of language and devotion, Michael Pinto of Winnipeg, Canada, Initiated worldwide endeavour of recording the traditional form of recitation and making it available through this web site.
We are grateful to Fr. David Heney of St. Paschal Baylon Church in Thousand Oaksm California, who together the development team behind Come Pray the Rosary (http://www.comepraytherosary.org) generously allowed Michael Pinto to set up a Konkani Rosary web site based on the same underlying software engine and interface developed for their site, on a strictly non – commercial basis. Even with this donation of technology significant resources in terms of technical expertise and web server facilities were required to get the operational. Michael Pinto turned to the worldwide Goan community for support. The Glorious Mysteries recorded in Toronto on 11th April, 2010. The Joyful Mysteries were recorded in San Francisco on 16th 2010.
On April 11, 2010, more than 220 people from all parts of the Greater Toronto Area, came to the Church of Our Lady of the Rosary in Scarborough for a service appropriately termed "Ektaim Zavum Ters Korumya". The service was held to recite the Rosary in Konkani, and sing the Ladainha in Latin. The entire service was videotaped for subsequent post-processing and display on the Internet at www.konkanirosary.org
The service was officiated by Fr. Edwin D’Souza, with ArtimiziaTellis organizing the recitation in Konkani, and Felix Remedios conducting the CLR Choir.
Organizing the event was a full team of organizers, volunteers, choristers, ushers, altar servers, and others, over fifty in number.
Interestingly the man who spearheaded the effort, Michael Pinto, was not in the congregation, but in Winnipeg from where he directed the effort.
In fact very few of those who were part of the planning teams have ever met Michael - showing what can be done using the telephone and email!
In Konkani there are many quotations that very appropriate to express ones thoughts. One that was constantly used in my family was:
Mog asslear unn vodde ghantar pavtat- (If there is a will, there is a way).
That is what happened in Toronto on April 11, over 220 Konkani loving people gathered, to say the Rosary in Konkani very devoutly and sing with pride the Ladainha in Latin.
This event would not have succeeded without the dedicated efforts of few people who worked tirelessly in a very short span of time.
My sincere thanks to the Congregation and all who participated in the Event:
